Panel discussion moderated by Richard G Brown (IBM), with Mike Hearn (Bitcoin Developer Zurich), Oliver Bussmann (UBS), Vitalik Buterin (Ethereum), Robleh Ali (Bank of England) and Christian Decker (ETH Zurich), followed by Q&A and a Networking Reception with selected experts from the financial and tech industry as well as government bodies.
Developments in the field of digital currencies and blockchain are particularly advanced both in Switzerland and the UK. The event aims to highlight current innovation and consider the main challenges as well as opportunities of the disruptive potential, in particular for large financial centres such as Switzerland and the UK. As technological developments are at an early stage, what is the role of the Swiss crypto valley and the UK's silicon roundabout? How safe are digital currencies according to the latest research and what will their emergence and new underlying technologies mean for the finance sector, central banks and mainstream users?

Mike Hearn: Introduction to cryptocurrencies and their ecosystem Mike is a software developer who specialises in low level systems software. He has previously worked for Google and now focuses on the Bitcoin virtual currency system.
Christian Decker: Safety of virtual currency networks Christian is a PhD Candidate at the Distributed Computing Group ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich), advancing cutting edge research on cryptocurrencies.
Vitalik Buterin: Alternative visions of the future of blockchain Vitalik is the Founder and Chief Scientist of Ethereum and Co-Founder and Head Writer of Bitcoin Magazine.
Robleh Ali: Central Banks and Digital Currencies Rob is Manager Digital Currencies in the Notes Directorate at the Bank of England.
Oliver Bussmann: Crypto 2.0 as innovation potential for banks Oliver is Group Chief Information Officer at UBS and a global executive with 25 years of experience with UBS, SAP, Allianz, Deutsche Bank and IBM.
Moderator: Richard G Brown Richard is Executive Architect, Industry Innovation, Banking and Financial Markets for IBM UK and adviser on cryptocurrency and decentralised consensus space.
